Ex-Aston Villa star Douglas Luiz could be set for a Premier League return months after signing for Juventus – with Chelsea now reportedly interested in his services. The Brazil international called time on his career at Villa Park last summer as he departed for the Serie A giants in a £42million move. However, his time in Turin hasn't gone to plan with the midfielder struggling for game-time under boss Thiago Motta.

Luiz has managed just four starts since his move across all competitions as Juventus are reportedly open to his departure this month. The Midlands outfit have been touted as one club interested in a loan move for their former midfielder who made 204 appearances at the club in five years.

Villa fans certainly have warm memories of Luiz who endeared himself to the club's supporters after signing a new contract just a month after he was subject to three Deadline Day bids from Arsenal in 2022. However, they may find themselves coming up against him this season with Chelsea having opened talks with Juventus over signing the 26-year-old, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport. Luiz could end up in London this month three years after Mikel Arteta's side peppered Villa with three bids – with the final one reaching £25m – that then-Villa boss Steven Gerrard swiftly rejected.

After signing the "long-term" contract a month after the summer transfer window closed, Luiz spoke of his love for the club and everyone associated with it. "I’m so happy," he told Villa's website. "I’m so happy in this club and I love this club. I love the people here, the staff and the players. I’m so comfortable here and I’m so happy.
