AMERICA’S new Net Zero realism will make it ever richer. Will our Government muster the courage for the U-turn WE need to stave off decline?. Donald Trump has quit the Paris climate deal, saying “drill, baby, drill”. His country thrives on home-grown energy — including gas from fracking and vast amounts of oil — with billsfor families and firms a fraction of ours.

And while other oil-rich nations are also ramping up production, we are saddled with an eco zealot Energy Secretary winding down North Sea drilling to rely mostly on unreliable wind and solar. Even if Ed Miliband ended our emissions overnight it would represent a negligible cut to the global total.

And the idea that Britain must set an example is absurdly egocentric. No major nation will follow us down this ruinous road. Miliband tells himself his mission will trigger an economic boom. It’s fiction. We strongly support Rachel Reeves’ reported plans to expand Heathrow and Gatwick and build other major projects. But how can she square them with her colleagues’ green obsessions? She can’t.

No10 must take the Chancellor’s side. Rapidly developing our infrastructure after years of paralysis is the only sane option to avoid being left behind in the global economic race. Climate myopia is a deadweight. THE failure to stop Axel Rudakubana long before the Southport horror is bad enough.
