Ange Postecoglou refused to bite after Tottenham were slammed by Jamie Redknapp in the aftermath of their crushing Carabao Cup exit at the hands of Liverpool. Spurs arrived at Anfield for Thursday night's semi-final second leg with a slender 1-0 lead. But they were thrashed by Arne Slot's side, who ran out convincing 4-0 winners to book a date with Newcastle in next month's final. Redknapp was analysing the game for Sky Sports and condemned Spurs' sorry showing after the final whistle, saying: “I cannot remember a team in my lifetime go down with less of a fight with what Spurs did.

“Not having one shot on target in the semi-final of a second leg, when you’re trying to change the course of the history?”. Redknapp's damning verdict was relayed to a bitterly disappointed Postecoglou in his post-match press conference. But the Australian gave Redknapp's comments short shrift, saying he wasn't bothered about the former Spurs midfielder's opinion. Postecoglou said: “I know a lot of people get really excited about things like that. People on television are paid to give options, that’s their job, my job isn’t to scan television and the media and see what people say, it’s to manage this football team.

“At the end of the day, everyone is allowed to have an opinion and express that opinion. My view is I don’t really need to respond to that. I don’t care if it is Jamie Redknapp or anyone.”. While Postecoglou brushed off Redknapp's verdict, he did go on to admit that he was disappointed with how his team had performed on the night.

He added: “We had an opportunity to get to a final and they don’t come around too often. It’s not the fact we have come here and lost that is disappointing, it’s a difficult place to come to, they are in a great moment right now and it would be difficult for anyone. “Liverpool are a good side in a great moment, they are flying in four competitions, players are in great physical condition and are top players at peak of their powers.

“But I would have liked for us to be more like who we are than we were tonight. I think the players understood the opportunity, for sure, but the reality sometimes hits you. It is a bit different to what you envisaged in your head.”. Join our new WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content.
