Antony wasted little time sending a message to Manchester United after producing an impressive performance on his Real Betis debut. The Brazilian winger moved on loan to the La Liga side after a season where he struggled for playing time at Old Trafford and he failed to convince head coach Ruben Amorim he could be part of the 40-year-old's plans. Antony started in Betis' draw against Athletic Bilbao on Sunday and was named man of the match following the clash.

The 24-year-old saw his shot saved before ex-Real Madrid ace Isco put his side in the lead, but Betis were twice pegged back in the 2-2 draw. Antony received a standing ovation when he was replaced in the second period after 72 minutes. It's safe to say that the former Ajax star enjoyed himself too. Antony quickly posted to social media to celebrate being handed his award. Posting on his Instagram story, Antony wrote: "Let’s go for more! Happy to be elected MVP!!!" Antony also reflected on his new environment in a post. "Important debut!" he said. "Happy to be with my teammates on the field and be able to play for this fan!".

The winger, who joined United in a mammoth £86million deal, made 96 appearances for the Red Devils after arriving in 2022 and has impressed in his first for Betis. Ex-Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini was pleased with what Antony was able to produce at the Estadio Benito Villamarin. Pellegrini did also have a word of advice for Antony before his debut and it appears he has taken it on board for now. "Well, I think it was a very positive debut," said the manager.

"He’s a quality player. I was talking to him just before the game. I think a good player doesn’t have to be constantly showing off his skills with the ball. He has to play a good game, make few mistakes and do two or three important things: a goal, a good pass, a good cross. "I think he was very involved today, especially with the second goal. He had just arrived a couple of days before and I think he’s going to contribute a lot to us.".

After not starting a Premier League game this season, Antony moved on loan to La Liga. Betis are said to have agreed to cover 84 per cent of Antony’s wages in addition to some performance-related bonuses. There is no option to make the move permanent however.
