Arne Slot admits Liverpool will "always look at the market" after Joe Gomez was hit with an injury. The Reds boss has continued to juggle his resources with individuals being sidelined throughout the season. He's just welcomed Ibrahima Konate and Conor Bradley back into the fold with the former's return timely given Gomez's absence.
It leaves Slot with Virgil van Dijk, the team's skipper, as his centre-half and he can partner him with Konate or Jarell Quansah. Another injury blow could leave Liverpool with limited options, especially as they remain in four different competitions.
They play eight times in January alone but this month presents the chance for the club, who made just the solitary summer signing, to bring in new faces and Slot remains open the possibility of reinforcements coming in to plug gaps. He said: "It would be a bit weird if I told you something different than we are happy with team. But we always look at the market. If there's a chance this club always brings something in. Joe Gomez’s injury means we go from four centre-backs to three. I'm very happy with the team and that is trust from the club.".
Slot's decision to stick with the squad he inherited has proved an inspired one with the Dutch boss taking Liverpool to the summit of the Premier League. He's been able to get the most from a host of players, including Ryan Gravenberch, who was signed 18 months ago.
The immediate priority at Anfield is keeping hold of their leading lights with Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mo Salah and Van Dijk all seeing their contracts enter their final months. Van Dijk has made little noise about leaving, but the other two are concerns.
