The 'Bank of Dave' phenomenon is set to hit Netflix once more with a sequel that sees Rory Kinnear reprising his role as Dave Fishwick, this time taking on the predatory payday loan sharks. Touted to outdo its predecessor, the new film aims to shine a spotlight on the quest for financial fairness on a worldwide scale.
Fast forward two years from when Dave triumphantly launched his local bank, and we find him teaming up with an American reporter and a Citizen's Advice counsellor, ready to tackle the big guns of the payday lending industry across the pond. Drawing inspiration from the real-life crusade of Dave Fishwick against the unscrupulous practices of money lenders in the 2010s, the follow-up zeroes in on Dave and his trusty sidekick David Henshaw.
Recounting his experiences, Dave shared with the Lancashire Telegraph: "David H and I decided to go after [the lenders]. I'd met people who'd tried to run away from home because of the terrible things that were happening to them through the payday loan industry.".
"David H and I decided to get in touch with these people [who were writing us letters] as we could probably give them a loan that's much cheaper, and then I'd pay this loan back to the payday loan companies. People were bursting into tears. "It was really emotional. So I set off to London to find these payday loan companies. I'm banging on doors.".
