BBC Breakfast's Sally Nugent didn't hesitate to express her skepticism when Jon Kay suggested an offbeat Christmas treat. In Monday's programme, the duo delved into the day's newspaper stories, stumbling upon a feature about jelly. Jon shared with viewers that jelly is making a comeback, with sales surging by 500% in the past month. Sally, puzzled, questioned: "Has Mary Berry done something with jelly? Has something happened?".

Jon elaborated: "Apparently, everybody wants jelly wobbling back onto the menu this Christmas." But Sally seemed less than impressed with the notion of jelly as a festive dish, reports the Express. When Jon queried: "What about blancmange? Whatever happened to blancmange?" Sally was clearly repulsed, responding: "I think you've gone a step too far there Jon, I think. Maybe not.".

Later in the show, chef Tom Barnes joined them, presenting a peculiar culinary pairing for them to sample on air. Tom advocated for blue cheese with a mince pie as the perfect post-Christmas dinner snack, leading Jon and Sally to taste test it. Inquiring about his preference for this mix, Tom explained: "For me, the mince pie is quite sweet, so the blue cheese adds that savoury to it. It just balances it out a little bit.

"If you think about what you would traditionally eat with cheese anyway, like chutneys, some fruit and maybe a glass of port, the flavours work so a warm mince pie with a little bit of blue cheese on top is something I like to have at the end of the day.".
