BBC Gladiators Phantom star teases big 'surprise' in series announcement

Gladiators is due to return to BBC One with a second series on 18 January, and one of the stars has teased something exciting is coming. The hit TV programme was rebooted in 2024 and reintroduced with a new set of Gladiators wowing viewers. Among them is Phantom, real name Toby Olubi, and Fury, real name Jodie Ounsley, who have shared an insight into the new series. The duo appeared on BBC Breakfast together and chatted to hosts Roger Johnson and Sarah Campbell about all things Gladiators, with Phantom hinting that an "new game" is on the horizon and it's a "favourite" of his.
"We've also got a new game coming," Phantom told the hosts. "Which is definitely up there as one of my favourites.". Sarah then asked if the new additon was called "unleash" but both Phantom and Fury kept quiet. He told the hosts: "You'll have to wait and see!" and Fury added: "Phantom is good at it!".
The rebooted gameshow, hosted by Bradley Walsh and his son Barney Walsh, is officially back this weekend, with episode one aiirng at 5:50 p.m on Saturday, and new episodes then folllowing on a weekly basis. The Gladiators returning to the series are Sabre, Legend, Diamond, Phantom, Athena, Bionic, Giant, Dynamite, Comet, Viper, Electro, Apollo, Fury, Steel, and Fire, who notably appeared in the recent season of Strictly Come Dancing.
Two newcomers are also set to join the roster of existing Gladiators, but their identities are currently being kept under wraps. Sadly, Nitro, aka Harry Aikines-Aryeetey, won't participate in the upcoming events after suffering an injury during training. Instead, he will be sat on the sidelines, cheering his colleagues on.
