BBC Gladiators' host shared some ‘bad news’ with fans as he revealed that one of the show's main stars has been forced to quit the competition. The BBC hit show made its return to our TV screens tonight for a brand new series but fans will notice that there was a Gladiator missing.
Hosts Bradley and Barney Walsh announced that Nitro, whose real name is Harry Aikines-Aryeetey, sustained an injury during training and would be withdrawing. Speaking to viewers at home Bradley went on to say: “I have some bad news. Sadly one of our Gladiators suffered an injury in training which means he won’t be able to compete in this series.”.
Barney continued: “But the good news is that he’s still here and he’s joining us in the arena right now.” Joining the presenters on stage, Nitro went on to say: “Obviously you know I’m explosive, I’m powerful. Sometimes I’m too powerful. And I ended up hurting myself. I’ve got a little bit of a dodgy knee. But these things happen in sport, you know, when you’re pushing yourself as hard as you do.”.
Bradley asked: “I mean, we’ll still be seeing you throughout the series, right?” Nitro confirmed: “The pecs aren’t going anywhere - they’re right here. They’re staying here. I need all those Nitro fans out there to give me some energy because I need to recharge.”.
Nitro first broke the news to fans back in December that he wouldn't be taking part in the second series of Gladiators. Taking to his Instagram, he announced: "Speed is my thing, but sometimes life throws a curveball! During training for series 2 earlier this year, I picked up an unexpected knee injury, which means I’ll be shifting gears this series and sitting out the events.
