A huge BBC radio presenter has been replaced by a former kids TV star as they have life-saving surgery. Radio 2's DJ Spoony, 54, revealed he had emergency brain surgery just before Christmas. The radio star, whose real name is Johnathan Joseph, told his followers he had a subdural haematoma. According to the NHS, this is a serious condition where blood collects between the skull and the surface of the brain that is usually caused by a head injury.

DJ Spoony will need to take time away from work following the surgery, meaning he is being replaced by presenter Angellica Bell. She is known for her time on CBBC in the 2000s and announced her new venture to her followers. Angellica said: "It's time to let you in on my news.....as of next Monday, I'll be covering the Radio 2 Late Night Show for a bit.

"I'm really looking forward to playing you some brilliant music, letting you delve into some of my vinyl collection, and of course, I'll be reading out your messages. So whether you're winding down after a long day or you're on the night shift for work, tune in from 10pm till midnight! Seriously, I can't wait, but you need to be joining me! Make it a date night! @bbcradio2.".

DJ Spoony ended up in hospital shortly before Christmas after experiencing headaches. He shared that doctors identified a "small bleed" on his brain and he subsequently underwent an operation. Speaking on his radio show at the end of 2024, he said: "So yes, the secret is out. I was off last week because on Saturday, the 21st of December, I got up early in the morning. I'd been having headaches for about three to four weeks and I'd been putting it off.
