Fans of BBC series The Split spot 'alarm bells' in the first episode as the show returned as they also predicted a 'punch up' ahead of the finale. Two years since the most recent series of The Split aired on our screens, the new instalment has finally arrived although, this time set in sunny Barcelona. Unforgotten star Nicola Walker returns as Hannah Stern, with Stephen Mangan as Nathan and Annabel Scholey and Fiona Button as Hannah’s sisters Nina and Rose, respectively.

Deborah Findlay is back as Hannah’s mum Ruth, with Ian McElhinney as Professor Ronnie, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith as Glen Peters, Elizabeth Roberts as Liv Stern, and Alex Guersman as Gael. The first part of the two-episode limited series aired on Sunday (December 29). Viewers were shook in the unexpected plot twist as events unfolded during what was supposed to be a dream wedding for Hannah's daughter.

The synopsis for the special series states: “Two years on, formidable family lawyer Hannah Defoe and her family are back and have gathered for a beautiful wedding at a magnificent vineyard nestled in Catalonia’s wine region. Set across one sun-soaked weekend, there will be break-ups, reunions and, like all good weddings, plenty of romance. As the sun rises over the glorious Spanish countryside, Hannah is compelled to banish the ghosts of her past and open herself up to the possibility of love again. Can she find the courage to take the leap into a new future?”.
