A British woman has been praised as a hero after she helped evacuate 100 horses from dozens of homes across Los Angeles - without fear for her own safety - as ferocious wildfires ripped through the city. Thea Creasy, 45, who has lived in Los Angeles for 20 years, led a heroic mission to usher hundreds of animals left behind in burning homes, as the horse trainer from Suffolk mobilised a crew of brave volunteers last Thursday.
Speaking to The Telegraph, Creasy said she found herself spearheading the equestrian evacuation efforts after she helped rescue two horses that became trapped in her friend's house. Despite police safety warnings, Creasy - who runs a dog-walking business with several celebrity clients - made the snap decision to drive to her friend's property and load the horses into her trailer.
'I'll still go save a horse even if it's at risk to myself – that's just the way I'm wired,' Creasy told the newspaper. Worried her friend's horses weren't the only ones trapped inside burning homes and barns, Creasy then embarked on a mission to save all the steeds on a road that was under threat from being devoured by the flames.
On her way, she put out a call for volunteers to meet her with as many trailers as possible, but Creasy 'started panicking and hyperventilating' when she found herself stuck on a freeway 'with a cloud of black smoke rising above where I knew the horses were'.
