Americans have shared what they don’t like about British culture and one of them is a popular dish in the UK. Angelina Perello-Javar, a digital content creator from the UK, asked people in America what their ‘British ‘ick’ is - a slang term that describes a sudden feeling of disgust towards something in particular.

Angelina went out in public and stopped random people in New York to find out what gives them the ‘ick’ about British culture and she captured her findings in a TikTok video. A common one that came up is something that is loved by British people - beans on toast.

When asked what her British ‘ick’ is, one woman replied: “Unseasoned food. I need some seasoned food, I’m sorry.” Another said: “When they’re getting Chinese food they don’t say I’m getting Chinese takeout they say I want a Chinese.”.

A third shared that their British ‘ick’ is slang, including the use of the word ‘init’. He added: “I think it’s like kind of obnoxious.”. One woman claimed that British people are “lacking with flavour in their food” but she gave a thumbs up to popular restaurant chain Nando’s which she described as “fire”. Another said: “When they say I can’t be asked like I can’t be bothered, especially when a guy says it. Something about it just doesn’t sit right with me.”.

The most common British ‘ick’ American people in the TikTok video said was beans on toast. Multiple people who Angela asked gave this answer. One man shook his head as he said beans on toast is his British ‘ick’. Another person added: “Listen, beans on toast. I tried to give it a go. I was like, okay I’m going to go into this with an open mind. Not great.”.
