Americans left baffled by how Brits pronounce a very common word - so, what else do they disagree with?

From tomato to aluminium, Brits and Americans have some very different opinions on how to pronounce certain words in the English language. This week a fierce debate has erupted on social media after Americans discovered that Brits say the word 'vitamin' differently.

Some even went so far as to accuse Brits of making up UK pronunciation 'for attention'. In the viral post, Twitter user Lolo @LolOverruled wrote: 'Just heard a british guy say 'vitamins.' Have you heard this? Not a serious people.'. The post has now racked up more than eight million views, with others sharing examples of words they find baffling.

It appears certain things may have been lost in translation - with some examples you never knew could be so contentious. One American wrote: 'Get them to try an say 'aluminum' next. You won't be disappointed.'. Another added: Ask them to say 'garage'. Brits can be quirky but that’s partly why I like them.'.
