Fans of Call the Midwife will be treated to another visit to Poplar this week, but after that, there will be a short wait until the next episode. The popular weekly drama which follows a group of nurse midwives working in the East End of London in the late 1960s has been pushed back to make room for the BAFTA Film Awards, which will air on Sunday, February 16. The next episode (episode 7) will now air on Sunday, February 23, at the usual time of 8pm.
Although some fans may be completely unaware of the change, this isn't the first time the BAFTA Film Awards have impacted the show’s schedule. Last year, the season 13 finale was also delayed by a week due to the prestigious event. This year, David Tennant will once again host the BAFTA Film Awards, with major films such as Conclave, Emilia Pérez, The Brutalist, Anora, Dune: Part Two, and Wicked all in the running for top honours. The stars are set to be out in their droves on the red carpet as the event takes place in London.
In this week's episode of Call the Midwife, Joyce is faced with a difficult challenge when a mother suffers from postnatal complications, while a council strike leads to an outbreak of Weil’s disease. At the same time, Cyril's life takes an unexpected turn. At the Radio Times Covers Party 2025 last week, some of the cast members discussed what’s in store for their characters. Helen George, who plays Trixie Franklin, was asked if Matthew would make a return to Poplar, and she offered her thoughts on the matter.
Candidly speaking, she said: "Who knows! It'll be interesting to see what happens there. At the moment, I don't know, and I'm excited to find out what happens.". Meanwhile, show screenwriter Heidi Thomas shared what the future holds for Call The Midwife after some seemed to think that the programme may run out of gripping storylines. Talking to The Sun about the cast and crew coming together to film another season, she said: "We all belong together. We all meet here every year in the Emporium of Unflattering Light to join with this company of people again. I don't know how long we're going to go on but we aren't going to run out of stories.".
