January’s long dark days – broken up only by The Traitors – have finally drawn to a close, and while February is not much of an improvement on the weather front, it boasts some of 2025’s best TV. This week alone, the likes of the BBC and Netflix are dropping 7 instant classics, meaning that for the foreseeable you will only need to leave your house for essentials. There are TV shows to cater to every taste: including a reality TV show to rival I’m A Celebrity, a spin-off of a huge comedy series and even a gritty documentary about a 90s boyband.

Failing that, you can also beat the winter blues by bingeing a classic period drama or get sucked into the second instalment of a pacy comedy thriller created by a BBC legend. Forget the golden age of TV, the golden week of TV is now upon us – so grab your remote and settle into your sofa. Here are the seven TV shows about to kick off the best week of televisual treats in years. Motherland fans were inconsolable when the BBC announced it would be no more after its final episode in 2022 – but fortunately, the universe of harried West London mums is living on in spin-off Amandaland.

Centred on Motherland’s queen bee and blowdried villain Amanda (Lucy Punch) , the sitcom follows her navigating a new era after her divorce and moving to a less well-heeled area of the capital. While sadly original cast members including Julia (Anna Maxwell Martin) will not be making cameos, Amanda’s best friend and punch bag, the meek Anne (Philippa Dunne), steps out of the shadows. When is it on? Amandaland returns on Wednesday at 9pm on BBC One and iPlayer.

On X, TV fans have been sharing their impatience over the release of Clean Slate, with @QPlusMagazine saying: ‘Mark your calendars! Laverne Cox and George Wallace team up in #CleanSlate, a must-watch comedy about family, identity, and second chances.’. When is it on? Clean Slate is coming to Amazon Prime Video on Thursday. Dropping twelve pampered celebrities into a Costa Rican jungle in the ultimate game of cat and mouse – what could go wrong? Stars including Mel B and Shirley Ballas must fend for themselves and fight for their survival as they become ‘prey’ for Bear Grylls as presenter Holly Willoughby oversees the chaos. With a brilliantly bonkers premise and an eclectic cast of characters- Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen struggling in the jungle will surely be a sight to behold – Celebrity Bear Hunt could be our next reality TV obsession.

When is it on? Celebrity Bear Hunt stars on Netflix on Wednesday. It has been a while since a cosy period drama has graced our screens but the BBC has filled that void with Miss Austen, which its lead star Keeley Hawes described as a ‘classic costume drama’ in the vein of Colin Firth’s Pride and Prejudice. Sign us up. Instead of her more famous sister Jane, the four-parter focuses on Cassandra Austen (Hawes); specifically her controversial decision to burn the Pride and Prejudice writer’s letters.

In a review, Metro’s Asyia Iftikhar described Miss Austen as the ‘perfect winter night binge watch’ advising viewers to ‘put down the phone for a few hours, grab a cup of tea and cuddle up in a blanket.’ Duly noted. When is it on? Miss Austen is available to stream on BBC iPlayer. The latest explosive music documentary charts the pitfalls of global fame and the fractious relationship with manager Louis Walsh suffered by 90s boyband Boyzone.

Sky’s No Matter What covers the dark side of the music including from Walsh’s PR strategy, including planting a fake story the group were involved in a plane crash in Australia, to Mikey Graham’s use of alcohol to help him with feeling less important than his bandmates. The no-holds-barred series is an eye-opening and, at times, harrowing portrait of living in the limelight at the peak of toxic 90s media culture that will make you reflect on the treatment of celebrities today.

When is it on? Boyzone: No Matter What is available to stream on Now. Our first returning show is BBC’s coming-of-age comedy drama Boarders, which finally returned for season 2 today, after its debut earned a perfect 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. It follows five talented Black inner-city teens transported to an alien world – a British boarding school – after gaining scholarships to the prestigious St Gilbert’s.
