Earlier on Saturday, Atletico Madrid continued their impeccable run of form by earning a hard-fought 1-0 win against Getafe. The result saw Atletico leapfrog Real in the table, go level on points with Barcelona and put pressure on their rivals who were both playing evening matches.

As Rudiger walked off the field following Real's 3-3 draw with Rayo Vallecano, the former Chelsea man would surely have been downcast and contemplating two points dropped. But his mood soon lifted when he was shown the Barcelona result on a phone, prompting the 31-year-old to break into hysterics of laughter.
