Elon Musk already plays a big role in US president-elect Donald Trump’s life. He was the most significant contributor to Mr Trump's campaign, his most powerful social media advocate, and now, is set to be a crucial advisor on personnel and strategy. However, it has not always been plain sailing for the tech guru turned politician.
In the early hours of New Year’s Day, the driver of a Tesla Cybertruck was killed and seven others were hurt in Las Vegas outside the Trump hotel when the car, which was loaded with firework mortars and gasoline canisters, exploded. The £63,000 Tesla, manufactured by Mr Musk’s company, was spotted burning just yards from the building's front doors.
It occurred just hours after 42-year-old pick-up truck driver Shamsud-Din Jabbar crashed into a group of revellers in New Orleans, Louisiana, killing 15 people and injuring more than 30 more. According to current president Joe Biden, law enforcement is looking into “whether there's any possible connection with the attack in New Orleans” and the White House is keeping tabs on the situation.
Elsewhere, Mr Musk targeted Sir Keir Starmer and called for safeguarding minister Jess Phillips to be jailed in a series of posts to his social media platform X. “Who was the head of the CPS when rape gangs were allowed to exploit young girls without facing justice? Keir Starmer, 2008 -2013.”.
