The midfielder, who joined from Aston Villa in a deal worth around £20m in 2022, has only featured five times across the Carabao Cup and the Conference League this term. His lack of minutes seems to be pushing him close to the exit door as Sky Germany report that Chukwuemeka is now "expected to leave" this month.
It's claimed that German giants Borussia Dortmund are amongst those clubs interested with boss Nuri Sahin understood to be a huge fan. Dortmund are hoping to strengthen in midfield in the January window and could negotiate a loan move for Chukwuemeka to fill the gap.
Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has opened the door for the England youth international to leave too, hinting he would be better served leaving in search of minutes. Speaking ahead of the yesterday's Morecambe clash, Marescsa said: "Carney won't be included [in the squad to face Morecambe].
"More or less the decision is like [Ben] Chilwell and [Cesare] Casadei, probably Chilwell and Carney, they are the same situation. "It's something that I said at the beginning that Carney is a good player. But we have so many midfield players that he will struggle to get minutes with us.
