Nasen Saadi, 20, is alleged to have "butchered" Amie Gray and her friend Leanne Miles at Durley Chine Beach in Bournemouth.
Sarah Jones KC, prosecuting, told the court Saadi walked at night along the promenade to Durley Chine for a “recce” of the area.
On the day of the attack, May 24, the defendant is allegedly shown buying wet wipes and nail clippers at a Superdrug store.
He was also shown on footage the following day going to Clapham Junction station, where he boarded a train to Bournemouth.
