Clive Myrie has broken his silence after fans noticed the newsreader had a "drooping eye" while presenting BBC News on Monday night. The journalist appeared on tonight's BBC News at Six wearing a black suit, white shirt, and navy blue tie. But while his right eye was fully open, the left appeared half closed.
After a flurry of worried tweets on X, Clive issued a statement about his eye, telling his followers he was suffering from a slight infection. The BBC News at Six presenter wrote: "Happy N.Year everyone and thank you all for your concern over my left eye. It’s nothing serious, just an infection.
"I did think about wearing an eye patch, but the boss said no! A bit like Long John Silver. He wasn’t having any of it! Cheers.". Despite Clive reassuring his followers, during the programme, fans took to social media to check on the newsreader. One fan asked: "Can you confirm Clive Myrie is OK? Clive Myrie’s sty looks pretty sore this evening.".
"@BBCNews, what's the matter with Clive Myrie's left eye?" another questioned while a third added: "#bbcnews Is Clive Myrie OK? His eye's drooping.". Someone else commented: "What’s wrong with Clive Myrie’s eye tonight?". "BBCNews is Clive Myrie ok? His left eye is droopy??" another echoed.
Clive's appearance on BBC News at Six comes after the TV star recently made headlines for not declaring his outside earnings. The newsreader, who recently published a memoir and has a travel series, failed to declare £145,000 from corporate events over the last year.
