The broadcaster, 60, is one of the BBC’s chief news correspondents and was appointed a presenter for the news channel in 2009. Myrie, who also hosts Mastermind, has been at the helm of weekday bulletins on BBC One since June 2014. However, as he appeared on screens this evening, audiences at home noticed something different about his appearance.
The journalist looked his typical smart self, wearing a black suit, white shirt, and navy blue tie. But while his right eye was fully open, the left appeared half closed, prompting viewers to question what had happened. Taking to X, ValWipTweets tagged @BBCNews, writing: ‘I hope Clive Myrie’s OK. A lot of us are noticing his droopy eye.’.
‘What’s wrong with Clive Myrie’s eye tonight?’, asked notyourorder. philiplickley wrote: ‘Is Clive Myrie okay? His left eye looks inflamed.’. Also heading straight to the official BBC account, KirstyMcCann asked: ‘can you confirm Clive Myrie is OK?’.
Speculation continued as viewers pondered what the cause could be, as United_Ste suggested a possible stye, which is a small, painful lump on the eyelid. Others expressed hope that Myrie is ‘OK’, as user Auchepis noted that a droopy eyelid can be indicative of ‘stress or trauma’.
