Passengers travelling between London and the UK’s next biggest cities face delays of up to two hours after a person was hit by a train. The incident occurred this morning on tracks between Milton Keynes Central and Watford Junction. Currently, no trains are stopping at these station. Avanti West Coast and London Northwestern services running through them are delayed by up to two hours.

As that is the main rail route between London and the cities of Manchester, Birmingham and Liverpool, it is causing major disruption to train services. Cancellations and delays are expected to continue until 3pm. An earlier casualty on the tracks, along with leaf fall and faulty trains, caused chaos on the main Overground and Underground lines in London this morning.

While this has mostly cleared, there are still severe delays on the Piccadilly line and minor delays on the Mildmay line. Traffic jams were expected until 1pm after a crash near Worcester today. But it’s gone 2pm and there are still hour-long delays on the southbound motorway linking Birmingham with Wales and the South West.

Now National Highways says normal traffic conditions are expect to return by 6pm. The UK’s busiest intercity rail routes are severely disrupted today after a person was hit by a train between Milton Keynes and Watford. Cancellations and delays of up to two hours are expected to last until 4pm.
