Conor McGregor criticised for posing with Nigel Farage ahead of Donald Trump inauguration

Former two-division UFC champion Conor McGregor has faced criticism after posing with Reform UK leader Nigel Farage on Sunday. The Irishman was photographed smiling and shaking hands with the British MP after the 36-year-old flew to Washington for the inauguration of Donald Trump. Mr Trump will be sworn in to his second term in the White House today, eight years after he first took oath of the office.
In a post uploaded to social media, McGregor wrote: "Honour to be in Washington, D.C., to support @realDonaldTrump the newly elected leader of the free world, and to stand with the 13 families who lost their loved ones at Abbey Gate." McGregor was referring to an incident in which an ISIS suicide bomber launched an attack at Abbey Gate outside Kabul Airport in Afghanistan in 2021 - killing 13 American service members and more than 100 innocent Afghans.
In a separate post uploaded to X - formerly known as Twitter - the Irishman shared a snap of the two together, captioning it: “We are so back!” - @Nigel_Farage #MyBrother. After grinning into the camera, the two seemed to be the best of friends, however, McGregor has faced some stick online following the picture.
It's fair to say that the picture of the pair hasn't gone down well with many, with one user writing: "Well, tell your 'brother' to stop acting like a stereotypical politician and start acting like himself again." Another posted: "You were an absolute joke. Now you're worse. You seem to get worse and worse.".
A third commented: "Ewww. @Nigel_Farage what are you f*****g doing, for f**** sake?" While a fourth posted: "Just, when you thought Conor couldn't go lower." Another wrote: "What a pair of horrible w******." A sixth replied to the photo: "Hang your head in shame.".
