The Dallas Cowboys are expected to name Matt Eberflus as their new defensive coordinator following an interview today, according to reports. Jerry Jones sparked fan fury when he decided on Brian Schottenheimer as the team's new head coach, and work is now underway to decide his assistants.

According to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, former Bears head coach Eberflus is going to become the new DC, signaling a return to the franchise for the 54-year-old. Eberflus was previously the team's linebackers coach from 2011 to 2015 under Jason Garrett before taking over passing game coordinator duties until 2017.

He was then hired by the Colts as their defensive coordinator from 2018 to 2021, before he got his first - and so far, only - head coaching job in Chicago. Across three seasons in charge of the Bears, the team went 3-14, 7-10 and were 4-8 when he got fired at the end of November.

The general consensus from fans appeared to be positive, with many believing that while he struggled as a head coach, he was an impressive DC with the Colts.

Dallas supporters were left furious last week when Schottenheimer was given the reins as head coach, after two seasons as the OC. On the offensive side of the ball, Falcons tight ends coach Kevin Koger is among the favorites to take over from Schottenheimer as OC.
