Darwin Nunez savaged by club legend after latest blank - 'He's not a Liverpool player'

Robbie Fowler has laid into Darwin Nunez, claiming the striker is simply "not a Liverpool player". The Reds forked out £85million to sign Nunez from Benfica in 2022, making him the most expensive signing in club history, but the 25-year-old has not really lived up to expectations. Nunez has scored just 37 goals in 121 appearances for Liverpool across all competitions and Fowler is not convinced he will ever be good enough for the club.
Speaking ahead of Liverpool's 4-0 win over Accrington Stanley in the FA Cup, where Nunez missed two golden chances to score, Fowler told ITV : "We're saying the same things now as we were two or three years ago. "He's raw, he's this, he's that. You can't keep saying that. For me, the more I see him the more I think he's not a Liverpool player. People might have a go at me for saying this because he works hard, you're not signing a player because he works hard.
"That should be a prerequisite anyway. You've got to come here and score goals. I know he's a fan favourite for what he puts in, but at the time we're talking now you've got to perform better and do better in that Liverpool shirt.". Fowler also explained that he feels Nunez's biggest weakness is his "speed of thought as a striker". He added: "I don't think he's quick enough in his thought in terms of how he should be finishing.
