Edoardo Bove will make his return to Fiorentina on Monday evening by attending their Serie A clash against Udinese. Bove is recovering after suffering a cardiac arrest on December 1 while playing for Fiorentina against Inter Milan. The 22-year-old was rushed to hospital after collapsing on the pitch during the first half of the match, which was then abandoned.

He was treated in the intensive care unit of the Careggi hospital in Florence and has been fitted with an implanted defibrillator. Bove returned to see his team-mates at Fiorentina’s training ground on December 14 and will now take another step on his road to recovery.

Bove will be present at the Estadio Artemio Franchi on Monday for La Viola’s game against Udinese. It will be his first time back inside the stadium where he collapsed and is sure to get a huge reception from the home fans. “Edoardo is doing well, he is recovering and we are happy. We have to be patient and have respect for him. He changed [hospital] wards so things are better,” Fiorentina general manager Alessandro Ferrari said recently.

Fiorentina have been providing support for Bove, who is on loan from Roma, and his father Giovanni was in the stands for the match with Cagliari two weeks ago. There is a looming problem for the young midfielder, though, because Serie A rules prevent players from competing with an implanted defibrillator.
