EFL considering VAR introduction with 'low cost' alternative available The English Football League is keeping its options open and considering the use of VAR throughout its competitions.
Football Video Support (FVS) could prove appealing to the EFL, as a low-cost option that is less invasive than the system currently in place in the Premier League.
It is designed for competitions that see no more than four cameras in place, as opposed to those with more significant resources which may open the door to the EFL's lower divisions.
So far the EFL has only seen the use VAR in the Carabao Cup semi-finals and final, in addition to its play-off finals.
Rather than seeing reviewed decisions controlled by an official deemed video assistant referee, the system instead offers challenges in a manner similar to cricket and tennis.
