Financial relief could still be on the cards for struggling households across the UK during the remaining winter months. With a particularly chilly spell, many are worried about the escalating energy bills needed to keep their homes warm. This concern is heightened by NHS guidelines recommending that heating should be switched on when temperatures fall below 15C for health reasons. However, with recent spikes in heating costs and a 12% rise in energy debt to £3.7bn, millions of households are likely to be anxious about their ability to turn up the heat or even switch it on at all.

Thankfully, numerous payments, discounts, and grants are available to help alleviate financial strain for many Brits. For a comprehensive rundown of some of the schemes energy customers can still benefit from this winter, read on... Individuals born before September 23, 1958 who are receiving a qualifying income-related benefit such as Pension Credit during the qualifying week of September 16-22, 2024 will automatically receive the payment - the money is tax-free and will not affect other benefits.

As per the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) guidelines on GOV.UK, a batch of letters should have already been dispatched to qualifying pensioner households in October or November. These letters detail the amount of Winter Fuel Payment they are due to receive. The majority of eligible individuals will get their payments in November or December, with the money being transferred into the bank account where their State Pension or benefits are usually paid.
