Summary at a Glance

National Energy Action Chief Executive Adam Scorer said, ‘This will be a third successive increase in energy bills, coming after three years of abnormally high energy bills.

The consultancy said “the increase in bills has been anticipated for some time, as a volatile international market saw price rises, however the cap forecast has risen in recent weeks as the combination of colder weather and reduced renewables production saw gas storage levels fall across Europe, resulting in wholesale prices rising sharply.”.

National Energy Action is calling for additional targeted energy bill support through a social tariff or an expanded Warm Home Discount; a help-to-repay scheme to support households out of debt; and for the government’s Warm Homes Plan to be the big game-changer that will actually turn cold properties into warm homes for the poorest households.”.

A Department for Energy Security and Net Zero spokesperson said: “Every family and business has paid the price of rising energy bills, which are a direct result of Britain’s vulnerability to volatile global gas markets.

“The only way to bring down bills for good is by making Britain a clean energy superpower, which will ensure our energy security, protect consumers, create jobs and tackle the climate crisis.”.
