Erling Haaland's father has aimed a brutal dig at Arsenal after they hammered Manchester City. The City star was mocked by the Gunners throughout Sunday's game, which the hosts won 5-1. First, Gabriel screamed in his face as he celebrated Martin Odegaard's opening goal, which he scored inside two minutes. Then Myles Lewis-Skelly copied Haaland's signature meditation celebration after scoring Arsenal's third. Finally, at the final whistle Kendrick Lamar's song 'Humble' could be heard ringing around the Emirates Stadium.

That was an apparent reference to a comment Haaland made following the reverse fixture in September when he told Arsenal to 'Stay Humble'. The Gunners reacted to Lewis-Skelly's goals by posting a photo of the left-back sitting down with his team-mates surrounding him, along with the comment: 'This team.'. That post drew a brutal response from Alfie Haaland, himself a former City player. The elder Haaland quote-tweeted that post and wrote: "«This Team» that wins everything. Ehhhhh, not.".

His son endured a difficult day, aside from scoring his side's equaliser 10 minutes after half-time. Thomas Partey quickly put the Gunners back ahead before Lewis-Skelly's goal put the hosts in a commanding position. They wrapped up the rout with late goals from Kai Havertz and Ethan Nwaneri. Former Liverpool star Jamie Carragher insisted City could not live with Arsenal's performance. "Great day for Arsenal. We said before they were still lacking statement results a title winner would have. But going down to 10 men against Wolves and winning, and demolishing the champions in a game that looked in the balance," he told Sky Sports.

"Arsenal looked a completely different team once it got to 2-1. They’re going to need that if they’re going to wrestle that title back. As soon as the game got faster Man City can’t cope with it.". Arsenal skipper Martin Odegaard was delighted with his side's performance. He told Sky Sports: "It was a top game and a top performance. With the fans and the atmosphere and the scoresheet like that it can't be better.".

Haaland's City team-mate John Stones meanwhile was left furious with the collapse from Pep Guardiola's men. He offered an apology to City's traveling fans for their display. "It is difficult. I think all of us don't take losing well. It is hard to put into words straight after a game like that. Pride hurts. Sorry to the fans that have traveled to come and watch that," he told Sky Sports. "How we played in the last 30 minutes was not acceptable. Personally and collectively, it's not us. It is not nice to be involved in that when you know it's not your team in those situations. Credit to Arsenal, this is not an easy place to come to.

"For 65 minutes, we played some great football at times. We were in the game and it was a swinging point. It swung the wrong way for us. I am angry, upset personally and collectively about how the game finished.". Join our new WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content.
