Away-day specialists Nottingham Forest climbed to second place in the Premier League with a goal in each half to inflict Everton’s first home defeat since August. Despite an injury in the warm-up for key defender Murillo, Forest’s fifth consecutive victory didn’t look in doubt after Chris Wood had fired them ahead after 15 minutes.
Outstanding skipper Morgan Gibbs-White capped a man-of-the-match performance to capitalise on an error from Everton’s Abdoulaye Doucoure for a second goal after an hour. Forest have now taken 20 of their 37 points on the road – nobody has more with Liverpool playing later on Sunday evening – and downplaying talk of Europe is going to become harder for manager Nuno Espirito Santo.
After three consecutive draws against Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City, this was a slap in the face for Everton manager Sean Dyche who gave Chelsea loanee Armando Broja his first start and substituted an out-of-sorts Jack Harrison at half-time. Nuno had planned to start with a back-three but Murillo’s late withdrawal meant a reshuffle with winger Ramon Sosa coming in and Gibbs-White reverting to a more central position with Callum Hudson-Odoi absent from the visitor’s 18-man squad.
Nottingham Forest secured their fifth successive Premier League win with a comfortable victory over Everton. Chris Wood and Morgan Gibbs-White were on target as Nuno Espirito Santo's side continued their impressive run of form. The late disruption encouraged Everton to make a quick start. Iliman Ndiaye slalomed his way to the edge of the Forest box but let himself down with the wayward final shot.
