Fan 'had head stomped on' as chaos erupted in brawl during Aston Villa vs Celtic

A huge brawl broke out between Aston Villa and Celtic supporters on Wednesday after away fans celebrated their opening goal in the home end, with one man "getting his head kicked in". The Champions League clash saw Villa beat the Scottish side 4-2 thanks to a hat-trick from Morgan Rogers and a strike from Ollie Watkins. Adam Idah initially brought Brendan Rodgers ' team level with two goals in the first half.
The game was marred by violence from fans, with West Midlands Police announcing it had made a total of 21 arrests. Of those, 19 were said to be Celtic supporters. One clip of violence which has circulated on social media shows a brawl between fans after a Celtic fan reportedly started celebrating Idah's first goal for the away side. Stewards can be seen desperately trying to put a stop to the brawl as one fan claimed a man had his head stomped on during the fight.
The supporter alleged that the Celtic fan involved was trying to "antagonise" Villa supporters in the home end after watching the game with a friend. The fan, called Ade, told the Birmingham Mail: "It wasn't like he stood up and then thought, 'oh s***, I had better sit down', no, he was trying to antagonise Villa fans. He was with a friend and he knew what he was doing. It was made aware to stewards and police before the game started that Celtic fans were in the home end. This could have easily been prevented.
"One family that had been sat near me didn't come back for the second half. If you've got young impressionable kids, it make sense (to leave). Will they ever come to a football game again? It wouldn't surprise me if they didn't because it was disgusting". The same fan criticised Villa for allowing Celtic fans to get hold of tickets in the home end, but also slammed the home supporter for their behaviour in reacting.
A West Midlands Police Twitter account condemned the scenes of violence after the game, writing: "Some of the behaviour displayed by a minority of Villa supporters on Wednesday night was completely unacceptable. "Investigations are ongoing into all incidents. May I remind you all that at every one of Villa's away European games, Villa fans have bought tickets in home areas.".
