Arsenal's goalscoring issues are getting worse with each passing week. Everyone watching can see it's a problem, but now it is resulting in them going out of competitions. Arsenal dominated the majority of their FA Cup third round clash with Manchester United, but were eventually undone on penalties as another trophy went begging.

Mikel Arteta hailed his players post-match, confessing he was at a loss to explain how they lost the contest. The lack of a No 9 is probably the most obvious answer, but it is a problem the Gunners have failed to address despite having several opportunities.

Kai Havertz has led their line predominantly. Gabriel Jesus, now injured, cannot be trusted to fire in 20 goals every season. Beyond that there is a lack of depth and reinforcements are needed, but Arteta gave few guarantees. He said: “New striker? We missed form various ways and different players. I understand guys. I cannot love my players more. I focus very much on the ones that I have”.

January can be a tough time to strike good business. Clubs often inflate prices and the odds of landing a proven performer such as Newcastle's Alexander Isak in the New Year are next to zero. So who can Arsenal genuinely look at to solve their problems in front of goal? Mirror Football takes a look at the men who could be available if the north Londoners came knocking.

The Ipswich striker has been namechecked by Gary Lineker following his impressive showings with the Tractor Boys. Delap was unproven in the top flight with opportunities not coming his way at Manchester City. Now though he's showing that he has all the attributes to be a success. A typical No 9 - he's strong, powerful and direct. He's largely lived off scraps with Ipswich and may well score even more were he getting the type of service that Arsenal provide.
