A 'devoted' father-of-one has tragically died after being hit by a car on his way to watch a football game with his family. Jordan Hattersley, 36, was walking with his dad and two younger siblings on his way to see Sheffield United play Sunderland at Bramall Lane on November 29 when he was hit by a red Lexus as he crossed the street.
The avid Blades fan, from Treeton, South Yorkshire, was rushed to hospital with serious injuries, and sadly died in hospital earlier this month. Jordan and his wife Kirsty had been together for 13 years before tying the knot this June. In a moving statement released through South Yorkshire Police, Kirsty explained that she had been with Jordan for the whole of her adult life. The two of them had a little boy, had bought and renovated a new home together, and had finally found the time to tie the knot when they were joined by 50 close friends and members of their family at their wedding ceremony in Cyprus in June. She said: "We thought we had time. We should have had time. We were at the height of our relationship, on cloud nine and just high on life and it’s all been ripped away in a split second.".
Kirsty explained that the couple’s six-year-old son, Freddie, will now need a great deal of additional support as Jordan took an active role in the care of his little boy. She added that Jordan was "an all-round good person" who would go out of his way to help others - and revealed that he had "given the gift of life this Christmas" by donating his organs upon his death.
