Four budget tweaks to make your home feel like a boutique hotel

GOING for a luxury weekend away is the ultimate treat but it doesn’t come cheap. If you can’t afford a getaway, here are some budget tweaks that will make your home feel like a posh bolthole. HEAVEN SCENT: Boutique hotels typically trigger all your senses with amazing smells. Try hanging some dried eucalyptus in your bathroom. Baking soda helps absorb foul odours — you can sprinkle it on surfaces such as rugs and carpets and let it sit for an hour before vacuuming.
Then a couple of scented candles in your living space creates a welcoming atmosphere while giving off a lovely fragrance. The triple wick white woods and tonka bean candle is £8 at Asda and looks and smells far pricier. WASH RIGHT: Luxury hotels always have the fluffiest towels. The key to making yours feel super-soft is to cut down on fabric conditioner when washing as it can build up on the fabric.
Instead throw in a cup of white vinegar in your cycle to cleanse it. And you can keep your bed sheets wrinkle-free by ironing them when slightly damp and spritzing on a little Dylon spray starch, £4, from Sainsbury’s. DITCH THE DISPOSABLES: An easy little touch that will upgrade your shower, bath and sink areas is to decant some shower, hand gel and shampoos into a sleek pump. You can currently pick up soap dispensers for £2, down from £8, at Dunelm and choose from a number of colours.
If you want to go a step further, create labels for each. LIGHT UP: Clever changes to your lighting can make your home feel more upmarket. Andy Ellis from bathroom firm Posh says: “Swap bright white lights for a warmer tone and opt for LED bulbs.”. In bathrooms, he suggests adding a remote-controlled LED strip under your cabinets for a hotel feel. You can get a one-metre strip for £5 from Ikea. SAVE time and cut energy bills with an air fryer.
