Freeview issues 24-hour alert and tells all UK homes to follow important advice

Anyone with a Freeview TV in their living room is being urged to follow some important advice this week. It seems many are being affected by a poor telly signal which means the usual Christmas content binges won't be as pin-sharp as usual. In fact, some might be seeing some serious interference when trying to watch the last episode of Gavin and Stacey or tune into the Strictly Christmas special.
The problems are due to a band of high pressure which is currently stuck in the UK skies and won't budge for another 24 hours. "Freeview viewers across the UK could see some disruption to their TV reception from Tuesday 24th to Thursday 26th December 2024," Freeview announced in a new update on its website.
"This is due to high pressure which could disrupt the TV signals which Freeview uses.". The weather can impact viewing throughout the year and high pressure is one of the biggest causes of weak and bad reception. "High pressure can cause two potential problems," the BBC explains.
"The first is that you receive a weaker signal, as the signal from your local transmitter is lifted higher into the sky. The second is that the signal from a distant transmitter interferes with your reception.". It's highly annoying, but sadly, there's nothing you can do to sort it other than be patient. One thing you definitely don't want to do is start trying to retune your screen, as this will simply waste time and have no effect on the TV.
