Department store giant Macy’s has confirmed its plans to shutter 66 of its locations across 22 US states this year. The company said the closure of the ‘non-go-forward store locations is part of their Bold New Chapter strategy which they announced back in February 2024.
‘This plan is designed to return the company to sustainable, profitable sales growth which includes closing approximately 150 underproductive stores over a three-year period while investing in its 350 go-forward Macy’s locations through fiscal 2026,’ stated the company in its announcement on Thursday.
The strategy has put investments into pilot stores referred to as First 50, and they have shown shown a sales boost over three quarters. ‘Closing any store is never easy,’ stated Macy’s chairman and CEO Tony Spring, ‘But as part of our Bold New Chapter strategy, we are closing underproductive Macy’s stores to allow us to focus our resources and prioritize investments in our go–forward stores, where customers are already responding positively to better product offerings and elevated service.’.
The list of closures includes nine in California, eight in Florida and nine in New York. The company’s flagship store at Herald Square in New York City is not being axed. Here is the full list of Macy’s stores closing in 2025 by state:. 6535 E Southern Ave in Superstition Springs Center – Mesa.
