For many homeowners, moss is a persistent problem that can be difficult to eradicate and often returns uninvited to patios. Its growth is fuelled by damp environments, and if left unchecked, it can quickly get out of hand. Fortunately, Aaron Christensen, a cleaning expert at Homeaglow, has shared some effective solutions to tackle the issue. Ideally, he advises regular patio maintenance, including clearing debris such as leaves, mulch and grime that can attract moss.

For new moss growth, he recommends using a hard-bristled brush to remove it before it becomes a bigger problem. For more established moss growth, Aaron suggests using a combination of boiling water and dish soap as a gentle and eco-friendly removal method.

He explains: "Boiling water and dish soap is a gentle and eco-friendly combo to remove the moss." To use this method, pour boiling water mixed with dish soap over the affected area and scrub with a stiff broom. Aaron says: "The water-soap combo should create enough lubrication to remove any mossy layer sitting on your patio." Another effective method he recommends is using a steam cleaner, which takes just five minutes and is one of his preferred solutions, reports the Express.

Aaron explained: "It is eco-friendly and simply uses the high steam temperatures to kill off the patio moss." However, he emphasised that drying off the patio after using this technique is crucial as moss thrives in damp conditions. While Aaron admitted that bleach is the "most powerful approach", he warned it's harmful for you, your garden, and any pets.
