Popular footwear retailer Shoe Zoe has announced that it will shut down 297 of its stores across the UK in a further blow to the High Street. The retailer has cited the Labour government's budget as the reason behind its closure, previously stating that the stores were 'unviable'.
It said that Chancellor Rachel Reeves' move to increase employers' national insurance contributions and increase the minimum wage has led to 'significant additional costs'. 'These additional costs have resulted in the planned closure of a number of stores that have now become unviable,' the firm said in a financial update this morning.
It will see stores close in numerous locations across the UK, most notably in Manchester's Arndale Centre, Birmingham, Cardiff and several sites in east London. Other spots in north London, including the neighbourhoods of Holloway and Harrow, will pull down their shutters for the final time.
Further hotspots to be affected are Leeds, York, Newcastle and Sheffield. A graphic below details each of the Shoe Zone stores in the UK that will soon be closing for the final time. The confirmation of the closures come after the group was already closing loss-making stores over the past year, revealing in October that 26 sites shut down on a net basis - 53 closed, less 27 opened - in the year to September 28.
