Last year was one of the worst ever recorded for the British high street, with over 13,000 store closures from big brands reported. And 2025 isn’t looking much better either, with brands such as Pandora, Swarovski, Bershka, Urban Outfitters and River Island all announcing plans to close their flagship stores on Oxford Street, along with a host of others. Recent predictions from the Centre for Retail Research estimate that a further 17,349 shops will close this year, further putting the squeeze on the high street.

Here’s a look at the full list of UK shops set to close in February:. WHSmith will be closing four stores this month as private equity firms look to take control of the retailers high street shops and management seeks to shift its focus towards travel hubs such as railways and motorway service stations. The four stores set to close in February include:. The supermarket giant closed its Stamford Hill branch in east London on February 1 after 14 years in business in order to allow landlords to redevelop the site.

‘Earlier this year, we shared the difficult news with colleagues at our Stamford Hill supermarket that the landlord intends to redevelop the site,’ a Sainsbury’s spokesperson said. The store will remain open and our colleagues will continue to serve the local community as usual between now and February 1, when our lease expires.’. Frozen food retailer Iceland has also closed a store in the capital, shutting up shop in Welling.

Iceland has not revealed its reasons for closing the branch down, but says it has offered its staff jobs in other stores. Farmfoods closed its store in Calthorpe Centre in Banbury on Sunday, February 2. No reason for the closure was given, but the chain is looking to open a new site in the Oxfordshire area. A Farmfoods spokesman said: ‘I confirm our shop at the Calthorpe Centre, Banbury will permanently close on February 2 following a 50% sale.

‘We’re grateful to all customers who have shopped with us during our time trading from the property and hope to open a new shop elsewhere in the town in the future, but details are not confirmed at this stage.’. The Entertainer closed a branch in Whitgift Centre in Croydon, London on Saturday, February 1. Paul Hardy, Head of Region at The Entertainer, said: ‘We are sad to be closing our Croydon store as a requirement of the landlord for the proposed redevelopment of the Whitgift Shopping Centre. We would like to thank our customers and staff for their loyalty and support.’.

The US clothing brand owned by Abercrombie & Fitch has said it plans to close its branch in Union Square, Aberdeen at some point in February, although an exact date has not been given yet. ‘We can confirm we will be closing our Union Square Hollister store at the end of February,’ read a statement. ‘We believe stores matter and we are exploring new store opportunities in the UK, including in Aberdeen, to provide a great shopping experience for our customers.’.
