Gerwyn Price reveals reason for loss of form as he looks to reclaim world darts title

Gerwyn Price admits he took his eye off the bull to open a fish-and-chip takeaway - and he got battered every week. The ‘Iceman’ enjoyed a surprisingly comfortable passage into the third round at the Paddy Power PDC World Championship with a 3-0 whitewash of Keane Barry at Alexandra Palace.
Never mind the pollocks - Price, who has endured a barren 2024, only realised how much he missed the thrill of the big time when he was sat at home last month during the Grand Slam of Darts, a competition he has won three times, after failing to qualify.
Now the No.10 seed, who won the world title behind closed doors in 2021, has resolved to park his alter ego as the Codfather of the oche and focus on conquering Ally Pally again. Price, who will be 40 in March, closed his cafe in Markham and rebooted his business as Chippy 501, but he now concedes it had a detrimental effect on his form.
He said: “That’s probably part and parcel of why I was losing and playing rubbish in some games - because my mind was elsewhere. I’m glad that it’s up and running, and in the back of my mind now, rather than worrying about it all the time because it did become a distraction.
“The cafe went downhill and is now being leased out as a dog grooming salon, believe it or not, but Chippy 501 is doing well. My aunt makes the best home-made rissoles, which are very popular. “It wasn’t just about opening it - I’ve got cameras in the shop and I was always checking them on my phone, wondering if people are doing the right thing, getting messages all the time, good feedback and bad feedback. Being sat at home during the Grand Slam gave me a kick up the a*** because I need to play.
