Girl, 5, enjoys 'magical' Christmas at home after waiting 500 days for heart transplant A little girl is enjoying a 'magical' Christmas at home with her big brother after receiving a new heart.

After 500 days on the transplant waiting list, a donor was found in the summer, and the five-year-old is now home with her brother Theo, six, after 18 months in the Freeman Hospital, Newcastle.

Expressing her gratitude to the family who saved Evie, she added: "They said yes and that meant Evie had the chance to come home to be with us.

She was sent a message of support by the parents of Max Johnson, the Mirror campaigner who was also treated at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle and they thanked the Sick Children's Trust, the charity which provided them with accommodation.

This time last year, Evie Green was in hospital waiting for the gift of life.
