Glasgow Warriors have been forced to reschedule Friday night’s URC clash with Connacht to Sunday afternoon due to severe weather warnings being forecast. Storm Eowyn is set to cause chaos over the next couple of days, with winds expected to reach speeds of up to 90mph.
The amber warning covers the south of Scotland and most of the central belt from 6am on Friday until 9pm, prompting safety concerns. Glasgow’s game with Connacht was originally set to kick-off at Scotstoun at 7.35pm but has now been pushed back to Sunday, with a 3.30pm kick-off.
‘This decision has been made due to the severe weather warning in place and the high winds expected to occur across Scotland and Glasgow this Friday - the original date for the fixture,’ read a URC statement. Warriors have to push back their game at Scotstoun to Sunday due to the severe weather.
‘Safety of spectators, team and venue staff, players, match officials and broadcast personnel are the number one priority and it is clear that the expected weather conditions would severely compromise this.’. Meanwhile second-rower Alex Samuel, who made his Scotland debut against Portugal in November, has agreed a contract extension with Glasgow.
