Fans have taken to social media to put the Golden Globes on blast for the studio leaderboard that was spotted during the ceremony. While it wasn't seen on camera, New York Times reporter Kyle Buchanan tweeted out a photo of the 'Globes Leaders' board, showing which studios and streamers had the most Globe wins of the night.
The photo - posted with roughly a half-hour left of the three-hour-plus ceremony - revealed Netflix was in the lead with six wins, followed by Max (four), FX/Hulu (three), A24 (two) and Searchlight (one). Netflix did ultimately end up winning the most awards for any studio or streamer with seven, followed by FX/Hulu's five, Max and A24's four and Searchlight with many others like Universal, Sony, Mubi, Focus Features, Amazon and Janus Films with one.
Although the leaderboard was not televised, Buchanan's tweet - captioned 'On the side of the wall at the Golden Globes there’s a studio leaderboard, lest things become too classy' - caused quite the firestorm of controversy online. Erik Anderson (@awards_watch) simply said, 'Yikes,' while @benryanwriter wondered, 'Why isn’t there an agency leaderboard with CAA raking in all the wins?'.
Entertainment blog Showbiz 411 (@showbiz411) said the leaderboard was, 'So tacky,' while @darkvisuals said, 'class has left the building, I see.'. Not everyone was opposed to it, such as @Kanchankt14, who said, 'A bit of humble bragging never hurt anyone. The Golden Globes keeping it competitive, even when it's all glitz and glam.'.
