JOHN DALY proved it may be a new year, but he is the same old maverick. The golfing icon, 58, has never been one to shy away from the limelight. And he kicked off 2025 in typical fashion - with a shot and a beer. The first, posted on his Instagram story, saw the American teeing off by driving a golf ball over a road towards a row of buildings while smoking a cigarette.
Thankfully, he did check over his shoulder and let a car pass before connecting with his driver and crushing the ball, prompting cheers from his friends. Daly, with his typical grey hair and bushy beard and sparkly gold shoes, then high-fived his mates in celebration.
He captioned the video on his Instagram story: "Teein' it into 2025...". And he uploaded the clip with the song Hit It Hard, Daly's very own single. Daly then added another video on social media. In the second, he joined his pals and his 21-year-old son John II around a table to down a can of beer.

But Daly finished last and quipped: "Yeah I lost by a lot... expected.". The Lion won two major championships during his golf career - the 1991 PGA and then the 1995 Open.
And he is still teeing it up on the courses - as well as the pavements. In December, Daly played at the PNC Championship alongside his son John II while star duo Tiger and Charlie Woods also competed. The Dalys won the event in 2021 while the Woods pair lost out in a play-off at last month's tournament as Bernhard and Jason Langer claimed their sixth crown.
