Everton have confirmed the appointment of David Moyes as their new manager – 12 years after he left Goodison Park. Moyes has returned to the Merseyside club after they sacked Sean Dyche on Thursday following an awful run of form and just hours before their FA Cup match against Peterborough.

The 61-year-old has signed a contract until 2027 and will be tasked with securing the club’s place in the Premier League, with the Toffees currently just a point above the relegation zone. Moyes enjoyed a great spell in charge of Everton from 2002 to 2013 where they were consistently the best team in the Premier League outside of the ‘big clubs’.

Moyes himself said: ‘It’s great to be back! I enjoyed 11 wonderful and successful years at Everton and didn’t hesitate when I was offered the opportunity to rejoin this great club. ‘I’m excited to be working with The Friedkin Group and I am looking forward to helping them rebuild the club.

‘Now we need Goodison and all Evertonians to play their part in getting behind the players in this important season so we can move into our fabulous new stadium as a Premier League team.’. Moyes left Everton in 2013 after being hand-picked by Sir Alex Ferguson to succeed him at Manchester United, but the ‘Chosen One’ was unable to live up to the lofty expectations set by his fellow Scot.
