Gregg Wallace has responded after his healthy-eating website was slammed by unhappy users for poor customer service as they chase refunds. The former MasterChef star, 60, originally launched his fitness site in 2020 when he lost five stone before rebranding to GreggWallace.health where he offers ‘sustainable lifestyle changes’, according to the website. ‘Our platform is a testament to the belief that achieving wellness shouldn’t be a struggle.
‘With over 450 nutritious recipes, insights from health specialists, and a vibrant community, we’ve created a sanctuary for those looking to transform their lives,’ the description continues. After an influx of complaints from customers running into trouble with automatic subscription renewals and attempting to get refunds a spokesperson told Metro: ‘The membership renewal policy is very clear and we send out reminder notices by email before any money is taken.
‘Anyone who feels they’ve been incorrectly charged should contact us and we’ll be happy to resolve the situation. ‘Gregg Wallace Health has helped many people, with thousands of members now leading happier and healthier lives,’ the statement said. Customers sign up for either a monthly, six-monthly, or annual plan to gain access to the full resources available on the website, with the yearly plan priced at £89.99 a year (he slashed it to £49.99 in December although this has since disappeared from the site).
The monthly and six-monthly plans also promise ‘the ability to cancel anytime’. However, the subscription scheme has come under fire by some disgruntled customers who have claimed they were unsuccessful in attempts to cancel their plans and had to go to great lengths to secure a refund. ‘Getting no reply on [their] email for a refund. Customer service terrible and would not recommend them,’ Trustpilot user Geoff H wrote in a one-star review.
‘Renewed my membership and took the money without any warning, tried to resolve amicably many times but the customer service was horrific and unprofessional,’ an anonymous consumer shared. ‘They took membership renewal money with no notice and are ignoring my daily emails to get it back,’ Hazel Mander shared. There were several other complaints from users demanding their ‘money back’, accusing the site of putting through unauthorised renewals and criticising the ‘terrible customer service’.
There have been some positive reviews, however. ‘I joined late June this year, after trying so many ‘fad’ diets and them not working. I am glad I did, this is the life changing plan that I needed to kickstart me onto the road for a better and healthier lifestyle,’ Tracy Jones shared. ‘A first class service all round, plus the support of others in the group is phenomenal,’ Patricia praised.
‘So much choice of wonderful food, easy to use website and unrivalled support. This plan is so easy to follow and really works,’ Trudy Branton echoed. Per the website’s refund policy, it offers a ‘freemium version’ to explore the benefits before financial commitment. However, it also states that ‘refunds are not provided once you have accessed our full intellectual property’. It adds that ‘membership can be cancelled’ but ‘given the immediate, full access we provide to our extensive recipe bank, expert advice, and diet framework, these services are not subject to the standard cooling-off period.’.
This latest development comes after Wallace was replaced by I’m a Celebrity star Grace Dent on Masterchef after alleged sexual misconduct allegations from 13 women spanning 17 years including Kirsty Wark And Ulrika Jonsson. The ex-BBC presenter was accused of making ‘inappropriate sexual jokes’, asking for the number of female production team members and undressing ‘too close’ women on the show.
He has also been accused of groping three different women in separate incidents and ‘mimicking sex acts’. Wallace’s representatives have issued a statement saying ‘it is entirely false that he engages in behaviour of a sexually harassing nature’. In December the TV star himself responded to these accusations by claiming they came from ‘a handful of middle-class women of a certain age’ and later apologised for his remarks and said he would ‘take some time out’.
Earlier this month, Wallace revealed his next career move linked to his healthy lifestyle brand. He announced a new ready-meal range with 12 meals at £8 each including Bang Bang Chicken Noodles and Moroccan Chermoula.
