Greggs customers slam bakery after steak bake 'health risk' recall and price hikes

Some fans of Greggs have blasted the bakery chain over a “possible health risk” leading to a recall of steak bakes following price hikes. It was a bad start to 2025 for Greggs-lovers after they found out the bakery chain had increased the price of sausage rolls again. Its most popular menu item went up by 5p to £1.30 and it's the second time in six months that there has been an increase of 5p.
And customers took to social media to complain this week about a product recall of its steak bake two-packs sold at Iceland - as they may contain sulphites not declared on the label. This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with a sensitivity to sulphur dioxide and/or sulphites. The reason for the recall is that some of the two-packs contain sausage, bean and cheese melts, meaning some sulphites are not declared on the label.
And some people took the opportunity to complain about the mistake on top of price hikes for Greggs products. “There starting to out price themselves. It’s like every other month everything gos up 10p (sic),” wrote one person on Facebook. Another stated: “WOW? they might contain sausage and beans? Good job really because I hardly found any steak in the last one I had... and they had the nerve to increase the price?".
And a further wrote: “Not that enjoyable any more hardly any meat in them not even that warm and they seem very oily and getting overly priced for what you get.” But others did not see it as a big deal. One person commented: “OK that's a bit frustrating but it's better than nasty bugs.”.
