Haven has unveiled plans to add 240 caravans to its Weymouth Bay resort in Dorset as part of a £20million expansion. The holiday park giant wants to make space for an extra 239 static caravans, along with five hectares of wildflower meadows and 4,000 new trees.
It claims the expansion will create around 70 new full and part time jobs and support around 180 construction jobs. The proposals are said to 'focus on providing additional substantial planting and a variety of landscape features' to reduce the 'visual impacts' of the new development.
The caravans themselves will also be painted 'with muted colours and dark roofs, rather than whites and creams', so that they don't stand out from the landscape. The company has invited residents to review the plans at its onsite pub, the Mash & Barrel, between January 9 and January 12.
However, locals have so far been mainly negative about the plans, claiming the site was being ‘over-developed’. Haven's Weymouth Bay Holiday Park already boasts two pools, one outdoor and one indoor, a go-cart track and an inflatable obstacle course.
